Long Shadows Sequel Syrah '19

This 95-point Syrah from legendary winemaker John Duval showcases Washington's mastery of the variety. The 2019 vintage erupts with aromas of blueberry, smoked meat, and violets. On the palate, layers of blackberry compote, black pepper, and dark chocolate unfold with incredible density, yet remain light on their feet thanks to bright acidity. Aged 20 months in French oak (40% new), the tannins are velvety and well-integrated. The finish lasts over a minute, revealing subtle bacon fat and iron notes. Decant 1 hour and serve with grilled venison or mushroom dishes.
