The 2023 Domaine de Sérol Chez Muron is a refined and complex Gamay wine from the Côte Ronnaise, produced from 50-year-old vines planted on a granite slope at an altitude of 480-500 meters. The vineyard is biodynamic, with a high plantation density of 10,000 vines per hectare, and the grapes are hand-harvested, de-stemmed, and fermented in amphora. The wine undergoes 15 days of alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts and is aged for six months in amphora with minimal sulfur added. This vinification method enhances the wine's purity and expression of its terroir. The wine is clear, fresh, and elegant, with aromas of ripe banana, horse leather, and dates, offering a seamless fruit profile. On the palate, it is smooth, fresh, and full-bodied, with fine tannins and a crystalline structure that supports the ripe, mouth-filling fruit. The wine is juicy and complex, with flavors of dark fruits, forest floor, and a touch of licorice on the finish. The wine’s length, power, and fine, mellow tannins make it a standout expression of Gamay Saint-Romain from granite soils. Domaine de Sérol, led by Stéphane and Carine Sérol, focuses on biodynamic practices to produce wines that reflect the unique character of their vineyard sites, and this wine is a perfect example of their commitment to quality and natural winemaking.
