In 1967, Schramsberg became the first American winery to produce a blanc de noirs, a legacy that is evident in the effortless elegance of the current vintage. Composed of 86% Pinot Noir and 14% Chardonnay primarily from Sonoma, this wine has a yeasty nose of apples in cream, nectarine, almond, and honeysuckle, with a mineral cleanness. The complex palate showcases rich textures and balletic qualities, with flavors ranging from apricot, white peach, and apple to lemon zest, strawberry, and young mango, all with a touch of white pepper and vanilla leading to a lovely, lasting finish. The Schramsberg estate was first built on Diamond Mountain in the late 19th century by Jacob Schram and was later restored by Jack and Jamie Davies to produce America's most prestigious sparkling wine. The Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs is layered and complex, with aromas of brioche, baked apple, toasted almond, and spice. The full-bodied palate features ripe red berry fruit, flaky pastry, and honey tones, along with an ultra-fine perlage and creamy texture. This beautiful blanc de noirs pairs well with baked halibut, herb-crusted pork chops, and creamy cheeses like epoisses or camembert.
