Join us virtually this Friday, January 15th, as we dive into South Africa and Australia to taste a red and white wine you may have never had before! The white wine is a new favorite from the Paarl region of South Africa, showcasing the highly underrated varietal of Chenin Blanc. The red wine is a complex and unique GSM (Rhône) blend from the Barossa Valley in Australia. These new world southern hemisphere wines are certainly one of the best value tastings we have ever done, so you do not want to miss it! As always, these are wines hand selected by our expert team that overdeliver in every way! We look forward to seeing you this week on Zoom!

2016 Schild Estate (Barossa Valley)

Winemaker Notes:

Dark ruby, clear and bright in color. Intense notes of dense yet bright redberry compote fruit sit alongside fainter hints of brambly winter hedgerows and Christmas cake spice. A controlled and smooth passage through the palate with a certain ripe fruit presence. The wine remains light on its feet with a real sense of prettiness to the palate which surprises given the intensity of the nose.

Blend: 55% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 15% Shiraz

2018 Wildeberg Terroirs Chenin Blanc (Paarl)

Winemakers Notes:

A single site Chenin Blanc from old bush vines grown on the Smuts Block which is old, dry-grown bush vines rooted in the rocky, granite seam outcrops that surface rarely in the otherwise deep, sandy loams between Table Mountain and Paarl. Hand-harvested bush vine fruit naturally fermented back at the farm at Wildeberg. As little work as possible is required in order to capture the site-specific energy of this fruit.  A nose of warm sand gives way to a wave of broad blood orange, pithy texture and a taut, wiry seam of granite texture in the finish.

Blend: 100% Chenin Blanc
