The Climb and the Wine
Recently, I and my children met in Banner Elk, NC to recreate a Finch Family Adventure. When my daughters Maida and Jessica were 15 and 8, respectively, and Wilson was 6, we climbed to the top of Grandfather Mountain in late November 1990.
It was extremely cold, icy, and windy. Papa Bear would have to ascend or descend a particularly challenging part of the climb with one cub and go back for the next and so on.
But, we survived without injury. This time, the cubs had to wait from time to time on Papa Bear. Hey, it’s a climb, often literally, from 5,000 ft up to 6,000 ft over 1.25 miles using ladders and steel cables bolted to the rock.
That night with dinner, we had the wines in the following pictures in the order shown.
